Are Books about Eating Insects Something New?

Last week I was browsing through books on Amazon.com, and I noticed one about eating insects (Edible: An Adventure into the World of Eating Insects and the Last Great Hope to Save the Planet by Daniella Martin). I visited that book’s Amazon page and noticed there are several similar books. Is this something new, or has there been a steady trickle of such books?

Published Books About Eating Insects

It seems that such books have been rare. (I found only three published before 1996.) When they do get published, it seems they come in clusters.

What caused the recent flurry of books? Will it peter out, or is it the beginning of a new era?

I found a 2010 TED talk about eating insects by Marcel Dicke. Apparently it’s already common to eat insects in many parts of the world. Note that Dicke is also one of the coauthors of The Insect Cookbook, which was published in 2014.

I wrote some notes about the relevant books and put them on a separate page.
